Kindergarten

Mrs. Baughman
My name is Kelly Baughman, and I am so happy to be joining the staff of Seven Generations Charter School as a kindergarten teacher!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where I majored in Elementary Education and Psychology. After graduating from college, I spent the next four years as a first grade teacher in New Jersey, and then an additional two years teaching the first grade in West Virginia. After having my first child, I moved to Pennsylvania and took the next ten years off from teaching in order to raise my three beautiful daughters. When my youngest daughter started school, I knew in my heart that it was time to resume my career as a teacher. I had a wonderful time teaching preschool for three years before embarking on this incredible journey with Seven Generations Charter School.

During my free time, I enjoy reading, crafts, singing and spending time with my family. I know that we are going to have so much fun together at Seven Gen! I can't wait!

Miss Schroeder
Bonjour Seven Generations Charter School Family! My name is Miss Jeannine Schroeder, and I will be teaching Kindergarten this year. I am absolutely thrilled to be involved in what will prove to be an empowering and enriching adventure for our whole community. This position could not be anything less than a dream for me, as you will see!

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from Stony Brook University. I began working for a Nonprofit Environmental group called the Long Island Pine Barrens Society. I loved taking students on hikes, teaching lessons, and preparing programs for schools so much that I soon became the Education Coordinator. In fact, I loved it so much that I decided to get my Master's in Education so that I would never have to leave the classroom! In the process, I had several diverse teaching experiences ranging from Biology in Philadelphia to Kindergarten French and Science in a small private school. I have also been a Learning Support Aide in a local Public School that I believe built my skills in accommodating each and every child. Finally, I was the Head Counselor of 4&5 year olds at The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education Nature Ramblers camp. We hiked, we learned, we experienced, and we grew. I grew to realize that teaching children to love and respect nature and the diversity of the lives around them was my absolute highest priority. And along comes Seven Generations Charter School! I look forward to a year of “academic excellence, mutual respect, creativity, sustainability,” play and love. And remember, “We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our Children.”-Native American Proverb.

First Grade

Miss H.
My family has always lovingly dubbed me as a "kid magnet". I've always enjoyed the curiosity, wonder and laughter of young children, so it was an easy choice to become an elementary teacher. Do what you love, love what you do!

I received a B.S. in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from the University of Delaware and a M.Ed in Reading and Reading Specialist Certification from East Stroudsburg University. I had the pleasure of teaching first grade for two years and then Kindergarten in Parkland School District for 6 years. Then I took on the most rewarding (and exhausting) teaching role of my career; becoming a Mom to two wonderful and busy children-- Evan, 9 yrs. and Caroline, 6 yrs. and along the way adopted a furry, four legged puggle named Sawyer. During this time, I switched gears to teach higher education at Cedar Crest College and DeSales University, where I am currently an Instructor of Literacy and Science Methods courses in the M.Ed program. In addition, I have been a naturalist teacher at Pool Wildlife Sanctuary for the past three years, where I actually get paid to explore the environment and teach using interesting wild animals with kids ranging from preschool to middle school.

And now my career path has brought me to teaching first grade at Seven Generations. I join you with excitement, energy and gratitude. Being a part of this school and its mission sincerely is a teaching dream come true for me! My teaching mantra is based on a wise Chinese proverb: " I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I DO and I understand!" I look forward to working with you and your child this year to make it a positive and memorable learning experience!

And remember--
Every puddle is an adventure, not an obstacle and childhood is a journey, not a race.
ps.--my favorite color is green and favorite animal is a frog! Can't wait to learn your child's favorites too!

Ms. Richardson
Hello to all the families of Seven Generations! I am Mara Richardson and I am thrilled to be part of the Seven Generations community!

My family (husband, Mark and 6 month old daughter, Lucy) and I are relocating to PA this summer from sunny central Oregon. Although my husband and I are both originally from the East coast, we have been enjoying the spectacular mountains of the West for close to a decade. I am looking forward to being close to family and friends again and we are excited about our new adventure. We can't wait to explore the beautiful Lehigh Valley.

This is my 10th year teaching and I have had the pleasure of working with students in kindergarten, first, second and fourth grade. My career has taken me to many places including Costa Rica, Washington DC, Bellingham, Washington, Mammoth Lakes, California and Redmond, Oregon. I love what I do every day and my students always bring a smile to my face!

When I am not at school I am often outside running, biking, hiking, camping, skiing, swimming, snowshoeing, kayaking or anything else that involves breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the sunshine! For a number of years I have been living in an alpine desert climate where there is seldom a rainy day. When they do occur, I enjoy reading a good book or playing Scrabble or Rummikub with friends and family.

I am looking forward to this school year and all the opportunities and experiences that will come with this new endeavor!

Miss Z.
My name is Theresa Zataveski. When I was a little girl, one of my favorite things to play was "school," and I hoped to be just like my teachers some day! I am thrilled to be able to live my dream of teaching and learning alongside young children at Seven Generations Charter School. This will be my second year teaching first grade, and I am so excited for the school year to begin!

I received a B.A. in Elementary Education and History from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA., and I currently live on my family's farm in Quakertown. We have many pets including horses, chickens, cats, and a dog. I love spending time outside riding my horses, going for walks and hikes, riding bikes, and gardening with my family. I am also very interested in history, and love to cook and bake!

I am so excited to be joining the Seven Generations family, and I look forward to getting to know everyone throughout the school year! I know we will share many fun and exciting learning experiences together! Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and I hope to see you soon!

Second Grade

Ms. Frick
Hello! My name is Amanda Frick and I am ecstatic to begin my first year as a second grade teacher at Seven Generations! To start off you should know that I was born and raised in Emmaus. Over the past several years I have become an active member in the Emmaus community, and it is so exciting to now extend my involvement by working at SGCS. As a graduate of Cedar Crest College I earned a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education and have spent time teaching in both the Allentown and Parkland School Districts. This past summer I worked as the Creative and Performing Arts Director for the ESF Summer Camp in Haverford, PA.

In my spare time, I love to go kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking with my chocolate lab Madison. I also have a deep passion for the arts and spend a lot of my time teaching ballet, creating/directing plays, and painting. I can't wait to begin this new chapter in my life. I am so eager to use the environment as a central focal point in my students education. Ultimately my goal is to help them become not only environmentally aware but stewards of their local community. So that's a little bit about me. I can't wait to get to know all of you!

Mrs. Fritz
Hello! My name is Lisa Fritz and I will be teaching 2nd grade at Seven Generations. Being a part of this unique school when it's just getting off the ground is extremely exciting!

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University and have been teaching, taking courses and reading educational books ever since.

I taught 4th Grade in East Stroudsburg School District for 2 years and 5th Grade at Boyertown Area School District for almost 5 years. For the past 4 years I've been teaching beginner piano lessons to local children. Many who will be attending Seven Generations Charter School! My strength as a teacher has always been the ability to really get to know each of my students and create an atmosphere of mutual respect.

I've been fortunate to live in Emmaus for the last 11 years. I have a wonderful husband named Rob and two beautiful children. Joshua (6 years old) and Tessa (5 years old) will be in 1st grade and Kindergarten at Seven Generations this fall! I have a 100 lb Golden Retriever (Ringo), 2 Beta Fish (Snowflake and Raspberry), and a Black Moore Fish (Maurice)! I've mostly been a stay-at-home Mom for the last 6.5 years and have loved every minute of it! (Give or take a couple of tantrums:) It's my children who have taught me the importance of investigating nature and being mindful of my surroundings. It is their curiosity and excitement about life that has motivated me to become the person that I am.

In my spare time, I like to hang out with my family and friends, read, listen to music, and enjoy the outdoors!

I can't wait to start the school year and I look forward to meeting all of the amazing children and families that will make Seven Generations Charter School phenomenal!

Ms. Moyer
I have always wanted to teach, but life took me in a different direction after I earned a BA in sociology from Macalester College in 1995. Following my interest in sound environmental practices, I took a position with Albert's Organics, a produce and perishables distributor, and enjoyed a successful career there for eleven years before deciding to go back to school to become a teacher. I earned my K-6 certification Kutztown University in 2008.

Spirituality, community and a connection with the Earth are central elements in my life. I practice Tibetan Buddhism and Andean Shamanism and have traveled extensively in Peru as well as to India, Nepal and Tibet to expand my understanding of these ways of life. I study and work at Wellspring Spiritual Center in Fogelsville.

I have worked with children of all ages as a volunteer for the YMCA, Peace Camp, a mentoring program and as a private tutor. I was the Gifted education teacher at Kutztown Area High School for the 2008-2009 school year. I have also worked for Healthy Alternatives in Trexlertown for three years.

I believe that children must learn not only fundamental skills, but how to integrate their learning into real-world situations, incorporating concepts of sustainability, a connection to the environment and respect for all people. I feel that my varied life experiences have combined to bring me to my dream job, teaching at Seven Generations Charter School! I couldn't be happier to be part of this unique, dynamic community.

Mrs. Gallagher

Miss Ginsberg
I am very excited to embark on the journey of building our Seven Generations community, creating a welcoming and stimulation rich environment in which your children will thrive. I am eager to get to know the members of our classroom family. Let's start playing, learning, and experiencing many aspects of life together.

I grew up in suburban Hungary, in a town where most families grow their own produce and raise their own farm animals. Living close to nature and in tune with the self is part of my culture and family background. During my teenage years, I travelled to and lived in many European countries to learn about other cultures and languages. I am fluent in German, English and Hungarian, and can communicate effectively in Spanish. Six years ago I moved to the United States and attended colleges in New Jersey and California. In 2008, I received a BS in Education from East Stroudsburg University. I have worked with children of all ages and cannot wait to start my career as a 3rd grade teacher. I am also a registered yoga instructor and have been teaching extensively to both adults and children. I intend to bring the benefits of yoga to the Seven Generations family.

I have a wide variety of passions ranging from reading, drawing, singing, running, cooking, gardening and many more. I aspire live with present moment awareness appreciating the small things. It is great watching ants at work, or taking time eating breakfast without distractions. I love to inspire others to see the beauty in everyday occurrences and the satisfaction of enriching the lives of others.

Fourth Grade

Mr. Burns
Hello to all 7 Generation Families, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Michael Burns, one of the new 4th grade teachers. So far it has been a real pleasure working with a great staff and administrative team, to help continue the Founders dream.

A little bit about myself, come September I will be starting my 20th year of teaching. I graduated with an Elementary Education degree from Holy Family College. Over the years I have taught 5th grade and physical education (K-8th). Nine years ago I helped start up another Charter School in Philadelphia. So I am familiar with all the highs and lows facing 7 Generations.

Through the years I have learned that each student is special in their own way, I'm looking forward to meeting my new students in the fall.

With regards of outside the classroom, I have been married for 13 years, have 2 wonderful children; Bridget and Connor, both will be starting 3rd grade at their local public school. My children really keep me busy with coaching their baseball, softball, football, and basketball teams throughout the year; I also referee basketball. Let's say there are not enough hours in the day for me. But I would not trade one minute of my time.

Recently the children convinced their mom into adopting a 6 month old Beagle name Scout. When I do find some down time I enjoy watching my two favorite teams; The Miami Hurricanes and The Philadelphia Eagles, along with jogging and golfing.

Well that's a little into my life, I look forward to getting to know not only my new 4th graders; but all of the students and families at 7 Generations. Please feel free and stop by my room and say hi, the door is always open.

Mrs. Owens
I am so excited to be teaching at Seven Generations Charter School! For the past few years, I have been working as an adjunct professor, sustainability coordinator, and research project manager at Muhlenberg College. I have Bachelor degrees from the Pennsylvania State University in Psychology and Rehabilitation Services Education, and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science with a focus in Conservation Biology from Antioch University New England. Past projects have included mapping forest communities, creating a regional tree field guide, assisting with a bird banding station, using and teaching Geographic Information Systems technology, assisting with a solar photovoltaic installation, wildlife rehabilitation work, and a variety of waste reduction, recycling, and composting projects. I am also a naturalist teacher at the Poole Wildlife Sanctuary. Prior to embarking on these environmental ventures, I worked for many years as a case manager and advocate for people with disabilities, including service on Human Rights Committees.

I have been lucky enough to live, learn, and work in a variety of beautiful locations in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New Hampshire. I look forward to further exploring our beautiful Lehigh Valley, its plants, wildlife, and geology, with my students. I currently live in Bethlehem with my husband of 8 years, our 4 year old son, and our 18 month old daughter. We enjoy gardening, biking, hiking, and camping with our 2 basenjis (dogs). I also enjoy knitting and sewing toys for my children and niece, and read and bake whenever I can find the time.

Special Education Teachers

Mrs. Anthony
I am very excited to be involved with such an innovative school at this stage in my career. Spending time in the natural environment has always been my passion, and finding myself there daily is a dream come true.

Seven Generations is the next stepping stone on the journey of my life. Here's where I've been...

At the age of fourteen, I discovered my love for Camp Mosey Wood, a resident Girl Scout camp in the Poconos. I spent sixteen of my best summers there, learning, growing, and doing the hardest jobs I ever loved. Beginning as a kitchen aide, I worked my way through the ranks culminating in the privilege of being the Camp Director.

Knowing I wanted a career teaching children, I juggled my fun at camp with the seriousness of my education. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kutztown University with a dual certification in Elementary Education and Special Education. My Master's Degree is also from Kutztown and qualifies me as a Reading Specialist.

I began my career teaching young children with special needs, which I did for 11 years. I then spent a year learning about and training teachers in the areas of Developmentally Appropriate Practices and Inclusion. This exciting position was cut short so I could begin the next chapter of my life: raising a family. I am the proud mother of two beautiful daughters who are passionate about dancing, Girl Scouts, music, dogs, french fries, Camp Mosey Wood and poetry. I have spent the past 14 years at home with my husband and children, while finding time to work as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant primarily with young children having Autism Spectrum Disorders.

I have spent most of my adult life in the same house in Center Valley. I enjoy basket weaving, ethnic food, gardening, french fries, camping, and just about anything else outdoors. Now my adventure will continue at Seven Generations Charter School.

Mrs. Zebrine
What a privilege to be a part of the Seven Generations community! I am Pam Zebrine, and I will be partnering with my colleague Kathy Anthony to provide special education supports and services to all children in need. I cannot be more sincere when I say that I am always available to listen to your child and to you so that together we can sustain a positive academic, social, and emotional educational experience.

I earned a B.S. in biology from the University of Pittsburgh and dual certifications in elementary and special education from Alvernia University. I am currently working towards my Master's in education at Alvernia and hope to complete my research and thesis by May. Wish me luck! Prior to joining the SGCS community I taught special education in both the Reading and Exeter school districts, managed an independent piano studio in my home, and homeschooled my daughter for six years.

My family is the love of my life. I have been married to my husband Mark for 23 years, and we have three children - Steve, Madison, and Dan. Steve is a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at Wilkes University, Madison is a freshman at Moravian College and an aspiring novelist and social activist, and Dan is a junior at Fleetwood Area High School enjoying chemistry and art. Oh, and there is Skater, our vizsla, and Delilah, our calico cat. Here is a list of some of my favorites in life... in no particular order: chocolate, forests, baking, Chopin, Renoir, orange, romantic comedies, pasta, Margaret Atwood, motorcycling, beaches, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers, Counting Crows, and my patio.

I am looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling year as we all set off on this new journey.

Specialist Teachers

Ms. Panik the Creativity and Imagination Facilitator
Alison Panik is so excited to begin her first year as the Creativity, Imagination and Art Specialist at Seven Generations. After eight years at Lincoln School , teaching grades 1, 3, and 4, Ms. Panik embarked on a new career as a mom and a freelance creative consultant for Crayola. Nine years of "walking through doors as they opened" included developing hundreds of arts-integrated lessons for Crayola, publishing 10 books for Scholastic, creating arts-based edutainment programs for Royal Caribbean, and traveling to England, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and the Caribbean. Ms. Panik's family enjoys hiking, biking, playing games, and camping and has been known to take off for a month with a tent and the family dog for a cross-country road trip. Ms. Panik is a graduate of Bucknell University and has done her graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Panik is known for having lots of ideas and she loves to make them a reality! She is an artist, a writer, a storyteller, and finds digging in dirt to be a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

"Many of my best memories are in Emmaus! Emmaus is where I learned how to swim and go off the high dive, where I went to high school, where I taught elementary school, where I had my first apartment, where I met my husband, where I got married, and where I took my baby for long, long walks. I think my running shoes have taken me down nearly every street and alley. And both of my grandmothers still live in their homes right here in town. I am thrilled to be teaching at the very first charter school in Emmaus!"

Mr. Scott the Project-Based Expressive Arts Teacher
I have been a professional musician for twenty-two years. I studied music composition at Carnegie-Mellon University and Berklee College of Music, and hold a BA in Music from Thomas Edison State College. I am the currently the Music Director for Unity of Lehigh Valley and Circle of Stones Ritual Theatre Ensemble, for whom I have composed the music for two major productions and nine plays for children. I also work for DeSales University as an accompanist and play keyboard for the wedding band Nite-Time. Other than that, I also work freelance as a composer and recording artist. I am planning to pursue a Master's Degree in Composition in the near future.

My various jobs and projects keep me very busy, but I also find time to enjoy movies, cooking, drawing, theatre, dance, reading, hiking, gardening, and playing with my 3-year-old daughter Gaia. I have a passion for world cultures, protecting the environment, and Native American lore. Besides my training in music, I have extensive experience and training in theatre and Native American crafts.

Having been part of this project since its inception, I am tremendously excited to see Seven Generations become a reality, and am especially honored to have been hired to serve as SGCS' Project-Based Expressive Arts Teacher.

Ms. Pulizzano the Music and Physical Education Teacher
Welcome to Music and P.E. at Seven Generations Charter School! Let me introduce myself. My name is Katie Pulizzano and I am the Music and P.E. teacher. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Moravian College after which I moved to California for a year. I had great experiences, including teaching music and working closely with the P.E. teacher at North Hillsborough Elementary School. Even though California is great, I missed the Lehigh Valley, my family and friends! Now I keep myself busy by spending time with my family, playing instruments, running, swimming, hiking and biking.

This year in music we will be learning about the six elements of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, expression and form) through many games, use of instruments, and our environment at and around school. We will also be devising ways (with the help of our students) in how to involve the community in our music programs.

In P.E. we will be learning about health and fitness, motor skills, the bones in the body, cooperative and competitive games through the use of by many games and our environment. It is also my plan to do two service projects - one in the primary grades (K - 2nd) and one in the elementary grades (3rd and 4th).

After silence, music comes closest to expressing the inexpressible."

Senorita R. the ESL and Spanish Teacher
¡HOLA! My name is Niki Rothdeutsch, and I am excited to join the staff at Seven Generations Charter School as the Spanish and ESL teacher.

For the past 3 years I taught Spanish to students in grades K-3 following the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme which integrates Spanish with Science and Social Studies. I recently completed a Master's Degree in Education in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Turabo, which is based in Puerto Rico, and earned a Program Specialist: English as a Second Language Certificate from Penn State University. Additional certifications I have earned include Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and Spanish K-12.

I love to travel and spent seven months in Costa Rica working and traveling throughout the country. I later returned to Costa Rica to teach Spanish and English to young children through an Early Childhood Education internship. Recently, I spent three weeks in Ecuador teaching English and traveling. In both Costa Rica and Ecuador, I took intensive Spanish courses and lived with local families in order to be totally immersed in the different cultures. I have also traveled to Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, and spent a week snowboarding in Chile. Next stop: Nicaragua!

Besides traveling, I enjoy mountain biking, camping, hiking, skiing and snowboarding. When it's warm outside, I enjoy kayaking down the river.

I can't wait to begin working with all of the students at Seven Generations Charter School!

Mrs. Mayger the Math Specialist
I begin to describe how excited I am to be a part of this fantastic team! I am Linda Mayger, the Math Specialist at Seven Generations. It is my role to support students and teachers in a truly excellent and comprehensive math program that dovetails with our integrated environmental focus.

I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My Pennsylvania credentials include K-6, Middle Level Math, and Middle Level Science. I've been working in preschool through middle school education in many capacities for the last twenty years.

For the past two years, I have been teaching grades 6-8 math and science with International Baccalaureate methodology at St. Timothy's Preparatory School in Apple Valley, CA. I have had an article published in Educational Leadership magazine and wrote a grant that was funded by the Toshiba America Foundation for an awesome magnetic levitation project. I intend to continue writing articles and grants for the innovative and fascinating things we will be doing at Seven Generations.

I was born into the nerdiest family ever, so I love science fiction, fantasy books, technology, and (despite having 4 brothers) I am not sporty in any way. I also oil paint and enjoy seriously rocking music. My two sons, Andrew (15) and Matthew (9), make me laugh and keep me humble. It's a good thing I'm a traveler, because my ever-loving husband of 20 years, Doug, has relocated me to five different states as he navigates his career as a mining engineer.

I anticipate that we are going to have an amazing year and I look forward to getting to know you as we embark on this journey together.

Stacy Hoch
What an honor it is to work with the successors of our earth, families, and communities! When doing an exercise in one of my graduate classes my peers were asked how they would describe me. The noun that presented itself the most was "passionate." A few of my passions are music, creativity, growth, learning, and self expression, spirituality, mother earth, and photography. I live my life under the conviction that children and adults alike are here to learn in any given situation. Children are given playgrounds and classrooms while adults are given situations and a wide open world to explore who they are. All of us are using the earth as our playground while using different mediums of self expression to establish who we are in our communities. The Seven Generations community is my playground and every day I'm operating with the hopes of empowering every student and community member to see their power, potential, and beauty the way that I can see it.

My personal life is filled with an abundance of loving friendships that have given me the support necessary to obtain the things I've been blessed to obtain. I have two children, Averyll and Rain who have taught me in greater form all that I've stated above and have granted me the opportunity to pass on my own life lessons to all of the children of Seven Gen.

By day I am a support teacher. By night I am a student. After receiving a B.A. in Applied Psychology from Penn State I enrolled in a 60 credit Masters of Arts program in Counseling Psychology at Kutztown University. I took a year off of my graduate studies and attended an institution in New Jersey to become a Certified Life Coach. I am now more than half way through my graduate work. My days are filled and long, that's one certainty about my life but I love every second of it. I choose not to do things I'm not passionate about so if you see me there, "there" is exactly where I want to be. If I'm finding I'm not challenged enough or I'm losing sight of the bigger picture of my life, I'll pick up an art or yoga class, or spiritual workshop to keep myself in balance. I am truly privileged to work and learn with everyone I connect with on a daily basis at Seven Generations and beyond. Thank you for believing in me administrators, so that I may show our community how much I believe in each and every one of them.
