Sixth Grade

Richard J. McLaughlin
Richard has worked with children for most of his life, starting at age 15 when he was a One-to-One at a residential facility. He went on to earn his Bachelor degree in psychology and a Certificate in Special Education from Arcadia University, in 1986. He also has a Master's degree in psychology from Temple University, in Philadelphia.
He's volunteered for many different organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, City Teams, and numerous environmental groups, and serves as a Board Member for the Bucks County Peace Center, in Langhorne. Richard's interests are many and varied, but most have a creative bent: He's a self-taught guitar player, writer and performer of children's music; an avid reader of children's literature and published author with multiple manuscripts just waiting to be published, and a ceramicist with his own kiln. He's also a sports fan whose favorite team is the Eagles.

What is it like to teach at Seven Generations?
I believe the best thing about working and teaching at Seven Generations is that I can teach from a place where I feel passionate. I have learned over the years that it is not just teaching the students about environmental issues, but it is getting them involved in their community. I am very excited about the possibilities the students are going to develop and all of the lessons I am going to learn from them.

Meg Miller
Meg Miller comes to Seven Gen via the Midwest, where she earned a degree in elementary education from Indiana University and spent three years teaching in Bloomington. After graduating, she worked as a Special Education Aide and Math Teacher before joining her husband to teach in a small K-12 private school for students with dyslexia and similar processing differences. While there, she had the opportunity to interact with students of all different ages, teaching in a multi-grade classroom, beginning with grades three and four, and ending with grades four and five. She also taught integrated music and technology to grades K-6; cooking to grades 7-8, and Middle School math. Best of all, she helped devise and participated in wildlife grants, prairie planting, gardening and other wonderful hands-on activities adapted to help each student learn at his or her best.
Now she brings all this experience to our students, having settled with her husband and dog, Bernice, in Bangor, in the summer of 2011. If you asked her what her hobbies are, what she likes to do, she'd say she loves to run! When she's not running, she enjoys reading, organizing anything and everything, playing with her dog, making fresh juice, cooking, baking bread, going for walks and making jewelry. What is it like to teach at Seven Generations?
I am very excited to be a new part of the Seven Generations team. I look forward to getting messy alongside my students, watching them explore this world we live in, and find their own answers to their many questions. What a wonderful school to encourage curiosity and different ways of learning!
