What do some of our parents, students, teachers and Community Partners have to say about Seven Generations? Read on...

"Our children love school, and we love this school. Seven Gen is a place where learning is truly fun! It warms our hearts to know our children are spending their days engaged in meaningful learning indoors and in their outdoor classroom, the earth. A caring sense of community permeates the school as we feel welcome to be participants in our children’s education. We are so thankful for this opportunity.  The Cort Family

"I have waited a long time to teach in a place like Seven Generations. Everyone one here seems to teach from a place of passion. I believe that the teachers here all feel like we are doing what we were put on this earth for. It is easy to see the effect it has on the children. I love watching the children walk down the hallway brandishing a wide smile. I feel so welcomed and valued including the Principal's open door and the wonderfully active parents we have. We are all here because we see things from a familiar and common point of view. I know what the real natural world has to offer. It is so excited, not only to be given the platform to teach from this perspective, but the support, encouragement and permission to forge a unique path of education for each student. It is a privileged to be here, and I am honored to be a teacher at Seven Generations Charter School.

"Both my children are learning disabled, and Seven Generations Charter School has simply been a wonderful choice for them. They work closely with me, my husband and our team to help our children fit it. The teachers and staff really listen to us, and are thoughtful, sensitive, and very caring about our kids. My 8-year-old has been here 3 years now and is thriving, making friends, and advancing academically, and every day she is excited and thrilled to attend! Thank you, Seven Gen.  - Gina Badalaty

I love Seven Gen. It's a really fun school. The teachers are the best and we learn a lot about the environment and making our world a better place. I think every school should be like Seven Gen.    - Third Grader

"Being a teacher at Seven Gen is my dream job. I love creating hands-on, minds-on learning activities for kids, especially if those activities involve being outside in the surrounding community. Even though this job is quite challenging, I love this school and my students -- and I hope the children know that. I always say that I am lucky because I get to be where the magic happens. Every day at Seven Gen is full of challenges, to be sure -- but each and every day offers little miracles that I feel so blessed to witness.

2010-2011 was my first year as a fifth grade teacher here at Seven Gen and it was amazing (Ms. Panik was our IDEA teacher in year 1). The kids at our school really are going to be world changers. Last year my students identified a need and did everything they could to help. They gathered data about local honey bee populations, discovered we had very few of these super pollinators in our area, and worked with a Seven Gen parent to build beehives and raise two huge colonies of bees. They also started the first Seven Gen yearbook club, took several garbage-gathering hikes, and donated their time to clean moss-covered gravestones in a local historic cemetery -- all their own ideas. They did all of this plus they became experts on the pollinator-plant partnership and studied how communities formed in the the American colonies through the lens of the Moravian community here in Emmaus. Not only did they learn about their own family heritage, immigration today, and what it is like to be a refugee, but they also participated in a regional immigration writing contest and took the first 3 places! Seven Gen students are strong and smart and believe in themselves. They inspire me and I know they will inspire others. I feel blessed to be a part of this learning community.

At Seven Gen you can be who you are. The children and teachers at Seven Gen are unique because everyone is engaged and actively involved in creating a dynamic, caring learning environment. Everyone brings their talents and time - teachers, parents, kids - to make our school a successful system. We are problem-solvers, supporters, leaders, and artists. There is a place for everyone at Seven Gen.

Happy children -- another one-of-a-kind characteristic of our school. It's time to go home at the end of the day and the children boo! They want to be together and they want to keep working on their projects, read their books, figure out their puzzles and problems. The children here are motivated to learn because they know that what they are learning will make a difference on a larger scale, so they want to be focused and they are eager to put their new knowledge to work in authentic, meaningful ways.

Another special quality I have seen only at Seven Gen is the palpable sense of community. While our students and their families come from all over the Lehigh Valley and beyond, it feels like we are part of a family here -- with over 300 family members! Students of all grades know each other's names. We greet each other and speak caring words with sincerity. When we have conflicts, it's all hands on deck to find a solution. When something special happens to one child, everyone wants to be a part of the joy. Of course our brains grow, but what can't be measured - and so often takes my breath away - is how our students' hearts grow. The children and staff truly care about each other, the school, the environment, and the community -- and it shows!”   - Ms. Alison Panik, 5th Grade Teacher

When I first came to 7G in K, I actually didn't know about nature at all. But Mrs. Cosgrave taught me all about trees and I really liked it. Then with Miss H. I studied the pond and all the animals that live there and how important they are to one another.  I also loved learning about weather and how to be safe in it. I got to meet a real TV meteorologist! The agriculture unit was really great because food is important for us to survive and I know that so many things come from farms and they are super important. Now in 2nd grade, I'm learning about the forest and know the parts like the understory, the forest floor and the canopy. The forest is really neat to learn about, too.

I was really proud of the Emmaus library presentation we did about the pond last year, because I think I'm shy and I had to stand up and talk in front of a lot of people and work with others to teach about the pond. I felt proud that I was brave to do that.   - Second Grader

It was like I accomplished the biggest things in my life. I know so much now and think about all these new systems all the time. Science is cool.
